A Curious Question #10: What’s your word for this year?

At the beginning of every year, a dear friend of mine picks her word for the year. It may be a word that represents what she wants to focus on for the year or how she wants to show up.

I love this idea and for last few years I’ve chosen a word for the year as well. One year it was Release, another year it was Trust.

As this new year dawned, I began pondering what my word for this year would be. I think I’ve settled on Explore. I’d like to continue my inner world exploration through meditation and add outer world exploration as well. This can take the form of exploring a new place in the great outdoors or exploring a new idea or activity.

So today I ask you to ponder the same question: What’s your word for this year?

As always, I’d love to hear your responses.

A Curious Question #7: What’s your favorite part of the Holiday Season?

There are so many things I love about the holiday season. One of my favorites is the way the season sparkles with lights. Since darkness comes so much earlier this time of year, it’s a joy to see so many homes and trees illuminated in a bright celebration. They bring to mind this verse of “Silent Night”:

“Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace”

These lights are like joy, hope, grace and peace all wrapped up in a little twinkling bulb. Kinda like the babe himself, twinkling in a manger.

So what’s your favorite part of the holiday season?

A Curious Question #6: How are you making Christmas feel like Christmas this year?

I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving felt like a non-event this year. I usually spend it with a house full of family, all of whom are amazing cooks. There’s always a buzz of activity along with great food and spirited conversation. This year, it was just me and my two sons. And although we had a nice conversation around the table and made a few of our favorite dishes, it just wasn’t the same. Thanksgiving didn’t feel like Thanksgiving.

Because of this, I’m feeling the need to make sure Christmas feels like Christmas. And I think lots of other people are feeling the same way I do.

Here’s why.

A Curious Question #5: What’s The Color Of Your Life Right Now?

Every once in awhile, I come across a thought provoking bio on the dating app I use. Recently, I matched with someone who wrote,

“There is so much more to life than the limited perspective that things must be black or white. I want to embrace the grey and all the other colors of life.”

A Curious Question #4: What are the sticks that stir your soul?

Yesterday morning, as I read through profiles on a dating app, there was someone who wrote in his bio “music and laughter are the sticks that stir my soul.” I absolutely love this imagery—the sticks that stir my soul—and would add the sticks are also what lights a fire within us. I paused to ponder what my sticks would be and settled on dancing, biking through the woods, and watching the daily play of the sunlight.

How about you?

What are the sticks that stir your soul?

I invite you to share them with me.

A Curious Question #3: What is something you are looking forward to doing this fall?

For the summer that wasn’t, the months seemed to fly by fast. Now that fall is upon us, I’ve been thinking how back in January, I had planned a fall trip to Europe with friends. We would have been flying out next month. Of course, with everything going on, the trip was postponed.

I was so looking forward to it.

But instead of dwelling on what I can’t do, I’ve decided to come up with something different I can do–something I can look forward to doing this fall.

So I ask you, what is something you are looking forward to doing this fall?

A Curious Question #2: If you had to lose one of your 5 senses, which would you choose?

One of the symptoms of the Coronavirus is a loss of smell and taste. I thought about this the other day as I sat outside and ate the perfect summer meal–a BLT with crispy bacon and a perfectly ripe tomato with fresh corn on the side. How hard it would be to not taste this meal!

This got me thinking–If I had to lose one of my five senses temporarily, which would I choose? I’m still debating. What about you?

A Curious Question #1: If you could change one thing right now, what would it be?

I’m curious, which means I love to ask questions. Today I’m starting something new for my blog called “A Curious Question”. I’d love for you to share your responses below.

With all that is going on in the world right now, it feels like we are on the brink of some big changes. We’ve been here before, but this time, it feels different to me. This time, it feels much bigger. This time, it feels like there is serious movement towards positive and reformative change.

So my question today is:

If you could change one thing right now, what would it be?
